Today the production value of agriculture in Madera County surpasses
one billion dollars. Since the Alabama Colony was founded at Borden
in 1868,
farming has been at the heart of Madera County life and the backbone
of its economy.
The photograph above was taken by Frank G. Desmond in 1956. It
shows two bulk-load, pull-type, grain harvesters, with twenty
foot headers, drawn by Caterpillar D7 tractors.
It was taken on the Adobe Ranch, located north of the Fresno
River, on a section of land leased by Frank G. Desmond & Sons
Farming.
