John Christof Heiskell (Johann Christoph Heuschkell)

John Christof [aka Christopher, Christian] [Heiskell] was born in 1727 in Amsterdam, Holland, and died in October of 1808 in Frederick County, Virginia. He was buried in Old Presbyterian Cemetery,1 Romney, Hampshire County, Virginia. John Christof married Eve E. Fitzgerald in 1752 in Virginia. She was born in 1730 and died on 2 September 1788 in Frederick County. She too was buried in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery. John was a member of the first battalion of the militia of Virginia in 1782. He owned a considerable amount of property in Winchester, and was one of the founders of the "Old Stone" Lutheran Church there. The cornerstone of the church was laid on June 16, 1764 on a plot of land donated to the Lutherans by Lord Fairfax in 1753. We see John Christof (Christopher), his son Adam, and his son-in-law Peter Lauck (Amelia's husband) supporting the Lutheran ministers in Winchester in 1790 with a quarlerly subscription.

John Christof and Eve Fitzgerald Heiskell had six children.

1The Old Presbyterian Cemetery was levelled, and some grave stones were moved to Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV, where several Heiskells are buried..
