tributes to Andrew Heiskell
Andrew Heiskell was the son of Morgan
Heiskell and Ann Hubbard Heiskell. He was born in Naples,
Italy on 13 September 1915, and died in Darien, Connecticut on
July 6, 2003 at the age of 87. He was chairman and CEO of Time
Inc. (1960 - 1980). He was President of the Inter American Press
Association (1961 - 1962). In 1946, at aged 30, he was named publisher
of Life Magazine; later, as CEO, he had to close it down
(in 1972). In 1974 he created People Magazine. He was
Chairman Emeritus of the New York Public Library; vice-chairman
of the Lincoln Center Theater; and a board member of the National
Audobon Society.
Andrew wrote an autobiography with Ralph Graves.
