Green School District

Green school was located near O'Neals, on what is now Red Top Mountain Road, just west of Highway 41.

From an interview with Mr. Jack Spillane, grand marshal for the Raymond Parade in 1998 (Raymond ready to celebrate by Morgan Voorhis
of the Sierra Star, 1998)

While Mr. Spillane was born in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 3, his parents relocated to Coarsegold. The house he was raised in still stands, now a little worse for wear.
"I went to Green Grammar School on Road 207, he says. "There was only two of us in the 8th grade graduation class.
Green School was torn down decades ago, but the memories linger.
"My teacher, Leota Bigelow, was the great grandmother of supervisor Frank Bigelow. That old oak tree down by where the school used to be, if it could talk, God only knows what it would say. It would probably tell all the things the kids did.
Even though playing hookey was a tempting option - "I didn't like school much - Mr. Spillane never got the opportunity. "My folks were strict. They watched me cross the street and walk all the way to school."
