Milton Young Heiskell, Dr. 1821-1888

Milton Y. Heiskell was the son of William Heiskell and Elizabeth Mitchell.

Dr. Heiskell married Catherine Kelso in 1848, and had the following children:
Tyler Davis Heiskell (9/18/1850-10/22/1921);
Betty Heiskell
Charles Heiskell
Carrie F.

Dr. Milton Y. Heiskell born Lee Co., Va., August 11, 1821; died Knoxville, Tenn., May 17, 1888; graduate Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa., and in 1855 settled in Abingdon, Va., in 1881 moved to Concord, Tenn., but moved on to Knox Co. where he died; surviving his widow and three children.

Dr. Milton Heiskell was a member of the Board of Trustees of Martha Washington College (1860), Abingdon, Va. In 1861 he was appointed a town councilman of Abingdon, and again in 1865.1 He was a member of the Sons of Temperance (1851), an organization founded in Philadelphia. Milton graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the class of 1848. In 1856, Milton was elected and appointed secretary of the Washington County Medical Society.3 After the Civil War, during the Period of Reconstruction, Major General J.M. Schofield appoint Milton as the Mayor of Abingdon, Va.4 Milton Y. Heiskell was a member of the Freemasons, Grand Lodge of Virginia. Abingdon Lodge, No. 48.5
