Madera
County, California 1911
Madera County, California was written by M. B. Levick
in 1911, and published by Sunset Magazine Homeseekers' Bureau
based in San Francisco. The work is illustrated, and contains
maps.
The purpose of the Homeseekers' Bureau and its organ, Sunset
Magazine, was to promote the settlement of the American West.
At the time, Sunset Magazine was owned by Southern Pacific Railroad
(formerly Central Pacific). Southern Pacific was the largest single
landowner in California, and, to maximize its profits, the railroad
turned into an enthusiastic land
developer.
