for food conservation, and incorporated by an Act of Congress
on February 24, 1925. The Madera Chapter (no. 62) was established

The national flower of the American War Mothers is the carnation.
Selling carnations to raise funds began in 1923, and, after 1931
the chapters were allowed to keep all the monies collected from
their sale, but it was to be used expressly for hospital work,
veteran aid or civic welfare. In 1963, the Madera Chapter made
$92.77 from the sale of carnations.
